Logan women pounce on SIC

CARTERVILLE -- The John A. Logan College women's basketball team pounced on Southeastern Illinois and rolled to a 91-61 victory in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play Saturday at Brewer Gymnasium.
The Lady Volunteers are now 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the GRAC, while SIC fell to 5-6 and 3-1.
Logan jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first quarter, which ended with the Lady Vols ahead 31-11. Logan took a 56-22 lead into the halftime break.
Destiny Cozart led Logan with 20 points and seven assists. Farasia Hodge had 16 points -- a dozen of them came in the first half -- and Shaniya Whitsell also hit double figures with 11.
Johnecia Kyles added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. Kaili Bacon also had eight points, while Miriah Donelson and Morgan Griffith both had seven. Hannah Groutage and Alicia Hornbuckle both had six. Marion's Nia Marshall played but did not score.
Demetria Heard and Lawrencia Simon both had 11 points for SIC. Jada Harrell added 10, while Keaubree Edwards had nine and both Farah Mesidor and Maggie Price chipped in seven.
Logan's next game is at home Tuesday against Three Rivers, which is responsible for one of the Lady Vols' two losses this season.
