Alumni Corner: Smithpeters, Carpenter, Buss shine on hardwood

Tyler Smithpeters -- SIU (Harrisburg HS)
Smithpeters scored five points in SIU's 81-75 loss to Murray State on the road Saturday night.
Smithpeters went 1-of-3 from the field with a 3-pointer and 2-of-3 from the foul line, while pulling down a pair of rebounds. The Saluki senior guard handed out three assists and added two steals in 17 minutes off the bench.

Justin Carpenter -- SEMO (Mt. Carmel HS)

Carpenter got the start for SEMO, scoring 14 points in the Redhawks' 77-70 loss to N.C. Central Sunday. Carpenter went 5-for-10 shooting from the field, tossing in a 3-pointer (1-for-2) and went 3-of-5 from the foul line. The SEMO freshman pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds (seven defensive) to go with one assist and one steal in 27 minutes.

Tyra Buss -- Indiana (Mt. Carmel HS)

Buss led the Hoosiers with a game-high 24 points and added seven assists, four steals and two rebounds in IU's 88-82 loss to Saint Mary's Saturday night in the Hilton Concord Classic Finale. And on Friday night, Buss paced Indiana for the fifth-straight game as she tied a game-high 22 points. The former Mt. Carmel standout added a team-high three assists and four rebounds as she shot 50 percent from the floor. Buss became the seventh player in school history to record 1,700 career points with her 22-point performance. She now holds 1,737 points which ranks seventh all-time. In addition, Buss made the All-Tournament Team.
