Herrin, Vienna win on second night of Marion tournament

MARION -- Herrin and Vienna both picked up victories Tuesday night in the second session of the Heartland Regional Lady Cat Tip-Off Classic at Marion's Cuss Wilson Gymnasium.
Vienna jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter en route to a 45-37 win over Massac County in the first game.
Haleigh Keeling hit a pair of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws as Vienna took a 16-6 lead into the second quarter.
Keeling finished with a game-high 14 points. Lindsey Holhubner added 13 points and Alyssa Jones had eight points, including six clutch free throws in the final minutes.
Taylor Williams led Massac County with 11 points.
Herrin found itself trailing at halftime of the second game but had a big second half for a 45-35 victory over Gallatin County, which was playing its opener.
Hailey Chubb had eight points in the first quarter, when the Hawks took a 15-8 lead. Gallatin went into the break leading 21-20.
Herrin opened the second half with an 11-4 run, featuring four points by Madison Russell and a 3-pointer from Marissa Russell.
Madison Russell put in six more in the fourth and finished with a team-high 16 points. Marissa Russell had seven, while Morgan McKinnies, Ashton Hawk and Layla Wade all had six. Grace Lehnhoff had four.
Chubb led all scorers with 21 points.
The slate for Wednesday starts with host Marion (1-0) playing Gallatin County (0-1) at 5:30 p.m., followed by Herrin (2-0) against Massac County (0-2) at 7 p.m. with Vienna (1-1) having the session off.
Thursday night begins with Vienna against Gallatin County and concludes with Marion playing rival Herrin.
