SESSER -- For the second straight season, Sesser-Valier/Waltonville/Woodlawn will participate in the Class 3A football playoffs.
SVWW finished its season Friday at the Train Yard in Fairfield with an 18-6 loss to the Mules. It was the Red Devils' lone loss of the season (8-1) and prevented them from winning the Black Diamond Conference.
SVWW will host Greenville (7-2) in a first-round playoff game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Greenville comes into the contest averaging 34.5 points per game while the defense has given up 22.6 points per game.
In five of the victories, the Comets have scored 40 points or more.
Comparatively, the Red Devils are averaging 41 points per game. SVWW reached the 40-point mark in three of their victories and just missed the mark in a 38-13 win over Vienna-Goreville in their final regular season victory.
We'll have more on the playoff matchup in Wednesday's print edition of the Benton News.
