Season ends at sectionals for Marion golfers

SALEM -- The season came to an end for Marion High School's last remaining golfers Monday.
Dennis Johnson and Isaac Hammet represented the boys at the Salem 2A Sectional, while Olivia Gray and Chloe Thomas played at the girls Springfield 2A Sectional.
Gray shot a 99 and Thomas carded a 100 in their tournament at Panther Creek.
Hammet finished at 84 and Johnson turned in a 91 in the meet at Salem Country Club.
The advancing teams at the boys sectional were Charleston (307), Belleville Althoff (309) and Quincy Notre Dame (312), with Carbondale just two strokes back in fourth. Benton was sixth at 320.
Mt. Vernon's Zach Williams was the medalist with a 70. The final score for the qualifying individuals not on an advancing team ended up being 76. Carbondale's Zach Pereira (75), Centralia's Caleb Urshan (75) and Massac County's Brock Willmes (76) all made that list.
The last score to make it at the girls sectional was 86. Mattoon's Kira Wolf was the medalist at 75. Advancing teams were O'Fallon, Normal University and Sacred Heart-Griffin.
