CENTRALIA -- The Marion Junior High School baseball team rebounded from its only loss of the season to beat Millstadt, 11-6, Thursday in the third-place game of the SIJHSAA Class L state tournament at Centralia's Rotary Park.
Marion finishes the season at 24-1 with the lone loss coming against Highland in Tuesday's semifinals. Highland went on to beat O'Fallon-Carriel, 6-1, in Thursday's championship game.
Trevor Jackson had three hits, Mason Gooch hit an inside-the-park homer and doubled and Chase Austin had two hits for the Wildcats, who plated six runs in the fourth inning to take control.
Karsten Stotlar pitched 5-1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and Nehemiah Goodman went the rest of the way.
