SESSER - The Sesser-Valier/Waltonville/Woodlawn Red Devils remain undefeated on the season at 6-0 after a hard-fought, take-no-prisoners, playoff-style game against visiting Chester, Friday night.
The Red Devils prevailed, 20-6, at Carroll Kelly Field.
Eli Gunter had scoring runs of 22 and 63 yards in a five-minute span from late in the first quarter through the early part of the second. He finished the game with 175 yards rushing on 10 carriers.
Chester's lone touchdown came on the first play of the second quarter and tied the game at six. Gunter followed with his second touchdown for a 12-6 lead.
The score remained 12-6 until the 2:40 mark of the fourth quarter when Peyton Rock found a hole in the middle of the Yellowjacket defensive line, going 27 yards to seal the win.
Rock finished the game rushing for 63 yards on 12 carriers. The Red Devil offense totaled 338 yards while holding the Yellowjackets to 225 yards.
Ethan Bert had 68 yards on eight carries to lead Chester. Quarterback Nick Meyer was 5-16 passing for 78 yards.
The Red Devils hit the road next week going to Hamilton County looking for win number seven and chasing a home playoff game the last weekend of October.
