HERRIN -- The Marion Junior High School softball team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday.
After winning their first 21 games of the season, the Lady Wildcats fell 8-4 at Herrin while attempting to finish a sweep of the Big Seven Conference.
Herrin took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning after Erica Wells and Aubree Williamson reached on errors.
Marion scored three in the top of the sixth to go up 4-2 when Baylee Kelley doubled and Jerzy Bittle and Presley Barnett followed with back-to-back homers.
But the Lady Tigers blew it up in the bottom half.
With the help of three Marion errors, Herrin plated six runs with Taylor Cornelius and Jersey Summers both hitting RBI singles before Presli Karnes ripped a three-run double to make it 8-4.
MJHS now takes its 21-1 record into the SIJHSAA Class L postseason. Marion hosts a four-team regional tournament starting Wednesday.
