A young Harrisburg athlete will travel to Kansas to compete in the Junior Olympics after winning her qualifier last weekend in Ohio.
Isabel Rister, daughter of Matt and Rachyl (Clayton) Rister, took first place in long jump at her Junior Olympic qualifier in Cedarville, Ohio.
At the same qualifier, she also took second place in high jump.
"She did a pretty amazing job," Rachyl Rister said.
"She has worked hard, and we're very proud of her."
She said Isabel, 10, has been training for track and field events for about 1 ½ years.
Her success in Ohio follows up her finish at the National USA Track and Field competition at the end of June in Lisle, where she placed in both events.
Isabel took fourth in long jump there and seventh in high jump at the event, which was June 26-30.
She also qualified for Junior Olympics in 2016, Rachyl said, but was not able to attend the competition that year.
The Junior Olympic event starts in Lawrence, Kansas, on July 24 and runs through July 30, Rister said, and Isabel will prepare until that point.
"She'll continue to train," Rachyl said.
"She laid off a couple of days after the qualifier, but she's training."
