ARLINGTON HEIGHTS -- Marion's stay at the first two-class IHSA boys state tennis tournament was a short one.

The Wildcats had one doubles team and one singles player in Thursday's opening rounds but are now eliminated.

In singles, Malachi Williams won his first set against Lemont's Charles Balisalisa by a 6-4 score, then lost 7-5 with a five-point tiebreaker and lost 6-2 in the third set.

Williams' next match was against Lansing Illiana Christian's Jason Eberly but had to withdraw due to injury.

The doubles team of Blake Horner and Logan Phillips lost to Alton Marquette's Jon Claywell and Daniel McCluskey 6-0, 6-2 in the first round, then were faced Freeport's Marius Dornhagen Schradermeier and Preston Engel.

Freeport's tandem won the first set 6-2, then the second set went to a tiebreak before Horner and Phillips were eliminated with a 7-5 loss.
