CARTERVILLE -- It took until the sixth inning for the John A. Logan College baseball team to get its offense rolling, but the Volunteers strung enough hits together for a 4-3 victory over Lake Land College on Sunday to complete a three-game series sweep.

Logan is now 32-10 overall and 15-4 in Great Rivers Athletic Conference games.

The Vols trailed 1-0 until the sixth, when Marshall Gilbert hit a one-out single and both Cody Birdsong and Jordan McDonough followed with singles of their own to tie the game.

Then in the seventh, Logan plated three runs to take the lead.

Shane Peisker led off the frame with a double, his second hit of the game, then Cody Grosse singled and Cameron Touchette followed with his seccond hit. Touchette doubled but an error on the play allowed Grosse to score.

After a walk to Logan Kaletha, Gilbert hit into a double play but Touchette scored and that turned out to be the game's winning run.

Tanner Gordon pitched seven innings and scattered five hits and allowed two runs, one in the second and one in the eighth after being lifted following a leadoff walk. Gordon struck out seven and walked two.

Adison Wildharber was pitching in the eighth when the second run scored on a two-out single. Jerred Quartier pitched a scoreless ninth for the save, ending the game on a double play after issuing a leadoff walk.

Logan is back in action Tuesday at home in a doubleheader against Shawnee College.
