Army Capt. Jason Harvey takes part in Black Knight 1000 competition

Army Capt. Jason W. Harvey participated in the first Black Knight 1000 competition during the Fourth of July weekend at a remote base in Iraq.

The endurance and strength competition was hosted by the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division at Forward Operating Base Shield, Iraq.

Thirty-three teams comprised of Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy service members competed in seven events that add up to a total of 100 repetitions.  Two-member teams had to complete 100 pull-ups, 100-yard truck tire flip, 100-yard sled pull, 100-yard tire drag, 100 wall ball squat thrusts with a 12-pound medicine ball, 400-yard run while tossing a 12-pound sandbag, and a 100-yard armored Humvee push.

Harvey is field artillery officer assigned to the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas.  The captain has served in the military for five years.

He is the son of Linda G. and the late Marvin Harvey of Benton. His wife, Natalie, is the daughter of Tim and Marsha Wilson of Benton.

The captain graduated in 2000 from Benton Consolidated High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 2004 from Millikin University in Decatur.
