To the editor:
After reading Fred Kerley’s article in last Saturday’s Benton Evening News, I decided to attend the Democratic caucus on Tuesday night. I went with the intention of making a motion to change the rule from voting on a slate of candidates to voting for each candidate individually. I also would like to have had a show of hands rather than a voice vote. You can count hands, you can’t count voices.
When I indicated to the chairman that I wanted to make a motion, I was told that “any troublemakers would be removed.” Not only was I not allowed to make a motion, I basically was not allowed to speak at all.
The Democratic council should think about the way they do things and how they treat people. As a result of having to vote on a slate, I, as well as others, ended up voting for some candidates that as individuals I would never have voted for. I also missed the chance to vote for some candidates on the other slate that I feel would have been a better person for the job.
If this is how the Democrats do things, I will have to vote for some Republicans this time.
