Q. Why is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy important today?
He brought us together, but if we don't remember what he did and how he did it, people will forget over time.
Q. What do you think his most important contribution is?
Unity. He unified us and showed us how to accomplish change. And he taught us that we have to get our heart right with God. When your heart is right with God, all things are possible.
Q. Are we doing enough as a society to honor MLK's vision?
No. It's wonderful to get together and remember him and what he did, but he should be remembered 365 days a year, not just one day in January. And some people do remember what he did and what he stood for every day, but a lot of those are the older folks who were alive at the time.
Q. What other steps should we take to improve racial equality?
Come together as a community when there's a problem. One thing's for certain, though. This wall next to Mexico isn't going to improve anything. If it goes through, it's going to cost a lot of money and people will be able to under it or through it anyway.
Q. Is racism on the decline, or more prevalent than it was 10 years ago?
It's getting worse. There are some people out there who want to keep the races divided. It really feels like when they talk about how things are going to get worse in the end of days. We have to love other people the way God loves us.
