Mary Ellen Corey, 83, of Whittington went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 11:07 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, from St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24 in Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Bryant Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

She was born in Whittington on June 18, 1927, the daughter of Edgar and Amy (Holman) Johnston.

She married Luther Corey in 1946, and he preceded her in death on July 16, 1976.

Mrs. Corey was a member of the Rescue Free Will Baptist Church.

She found peace and enjoyment in flea marketing with her sisters and she enjoyed wildlife. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, rarely missing a game.

Mrs. Corey is survived by her three daughters, Lynette Carol Clark and husband David of Thompsonville, Cathy Young and husband William of Whittington and Mary Lou Price and husband Brad of Benton; one son Jeff Corey and wife Gail of Branson, Mo., 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, one step-grandson; a brother Ewing Johnston and wife Marjorie of Benton, a sister Irene Cross and husband Charles of Benton, several nieces and nephews and an aunt Mary Bevis of Herrin.

Mrs. Corey was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Jacqueline Corey; two brothers, George and Beverly Johnston; a sister, Alice Jane Barnfield; and a stepdaughter, Dorothy Jean Phillips.
