Harry Atkinson, born March 6, 1913, in Chicago died June 19, 2009, in Peoria, Ariz.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Williams Chapel Cemetery in Ewing with the Rev. Ron Cremeens officiating.
He is survived by son Bill, daughter Karen, and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cleo and brother Kimble.
Most of his career was spent in the Chicago Post Office accounting department. After 31 years, he retired and became an accountant at the Lake County Health Department in Illinois.
He sang with the Apollo Chorus for 24 years, where he performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
He and his wife moved to Sun City in 1976, where he learned jewelry making in lapidary and silver-craft clubs and sang with the Luke AFB Choir and the Bellevue Heights Baptist Church choir. Harry also had a lifelong passion for fishing.
