Joseph L. Toigo, 74, of Christopher died Saturday, June 27, 2009, in Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother John Arvai officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery in Buckner. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Christopher, the son of John Toigo and Antonia Andrighetti Toigo. He married Karen Peters Toigo, who preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 1996.

Mr. Toigo retired from Old Ben 21 after 15 years as a coal miner. He also made fishing lures.
Survivors include a son, Shannon Toigo of Christopher and his fiancé Lynne Stanton; brothers and sisters, Lorena Simion of Christopher, Adeline Walker of Herrin, Angelina Loiacono of Du Quoin and Toney Toigo of Michigan; and a sister-in-law and husband, Sharon and Jack Dollus of Du Quoin.

His father and mother; three brothers, John, Louis and Isacco Toigo; two sisters, Mary Fusinatie and Josephine Rea; his wife; brother-in-law and wife, Richard and Joann Peters; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Loraine Peters, preceded Mr. Toigo in death.
