Patsy Ruth Schram, 75, of Benton, IL, passed away peacefully with her husband and family at her side at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2009 at Helia Healthcare, Benton, IL.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery, Benton, IL, with James Broshears officiating. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Patsy was born on October 11, 1933 in Benton, IL the daughter of Alex Gieselman and Ruth (Jerrels) Gieselman. She married George Truman Schram on July 19, 1952 and he survives. Shortly after their marriage she traveled to Japan to be with her husband who was serving in the Army. Their son George Thomas was born while they were living in Japan. Three years later while living in Germany their daughter Beverly Jane was born. She traveled the world with her husband and children living also in Alaska for four years. She returned to Benton to live while her husband was serving in Vietnam. They have resided in Benton since his retirement from the Army in 1969. While living in Benton she worked many years as a crossing guard and playground supervisor for the Benton School District. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Benton, IL.
She is survived by her husband George of 57 years and her older sister, Geraldine Ahlfeld, Benton, IL, her two children, George Thomas (Ruth Ann) Schram, Johnston City, IL, Beverly Jane (Scott) Pearcy, Acworth, GA, five grandchildren, Amy (John) Hepler, Christina (Brandon) Leehy, Jared Schram and friend Tiffany, TSgt. Joseph (Jennifer) Pearcy, Jenna Pearcy and her fiancé Daniel Driggers, five great-grandchildren, Haley, Cameron, and Tristen Leehy, Arilyn Hardcastle and Johnnie Hepler, four sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law, Ramona Lewis, Jean (Harold) Summers, Jack (Margaret) Schram, Joyce (Jim) Ragan, Paul Schram, Pete (Beverly) Schram, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Schram was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother, Sonny Gieselman, one sister, Betty Jo Lang.
The family would like to give their sincere thanks to Dr. Richard Rethorst and staff and also the staff of Helia Healthcare of Benton for their attentive and loving care given to Patsy over the past several years. A special thanks to her fellow residents at Helia for their friendship. Thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois for the care given the last week of her life. She will be dearly missed.
