David Wayne Smothers, 25, of Benton died at 10:05 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2010, at his home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Michael S. Wall officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery, Parrish, with military rites performed by the Benton American Legion and V.F.W.

Mr. Smothers was born on Dec. 23, 1984, in West Frankfort, the son of Gary Smothers and Sharon (Summers) Key. He married the former Jennifer Long on Nov. 4, 2003, and she survives.
David loved drag racing, motorcycles and fishing, and was a member of the Greater Love Faith Chapel, Logan. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran and enjoyed spending time with his children.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Jennifer Smothers, Benton; two children, Kaley Jade Smothers and Jayden Cash Taylor, both of Benton; mother, Sharon Key, Logan; father and step-mother, Gary Smothers and Lisa Miller, Benton; two stepbrothers and one stepsister, Steven Boner, West Frankfort, and Eric and Ashley Key, both of West Frankfort; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Smothers was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ray and Sophia Summers, and paternal grandparents, Doc and Mildred Smothers.
