Margaret Virginia Beck, 90, of Zeigler passed away at 8:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.

A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Beck will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the St. Aloysius-Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Royalton with Father Trevor Murry and Father Peter Hsu officiating. Burial will be at the St. Aloysius Cemetery east of Royalton. There will be no visitation, family and friends are asked to gather at the church prior to the start of the mass at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Beck may be made to the St. Aloysius-Sacred Heart Catholic Church or St. Aloysius Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the church or may be mailed to the St. Aloysius-Sacred Heart Church, P.O. Box 100, Royalton, IL 62983.

Vantrease Funeral Homes, Inc. in Zeigler and Royalton is in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Zeigler to Alfred C. and Sarah Ann (Gurley) Carr.

She married Paul Bernard Beck Jan. 5, 1937, in Zeigler.  He preceded her in death October 2, 1970.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Ann and Philip Baker of Brea, Calif.; two grandchildren, Laura and Greg Baker of Brea, Calif.; a close nephew, Dr. Art Lenzini of Herrin; a niece, Paula Bean of Diamond Head, Miss., and their children and grandchildren.

Her parents and two brothers, Edward and Robert L. Carr also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Beck was a member of the St. Aloysius-Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Royalton. She was the church organist for many years at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Zeigler. Margaret was a graduate of Zeigler High School, Class of 1936, and a retired salesperson for J.W. Reynolds Monument Company at their Herrin office.
