Fern E. Higdon, 87, of Benton died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center, Mt. Vernon.
Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Antioch Cemetery, Macedonia. There will be no public visitation. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Higdon was born on March 2, 1922, in Macedonia, the daughter of Walter Cordova Corn and Delsie Bessie (Harrelson) Corn. She married Robert Higdon on July 10, 1968, and he survives.
Fern previously worked at the Elgin Mental Health Center as a Mental Health Professional. She was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Macedonia, and enjoyed reading, cooking, shopping, and spending time with her family.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert Higdon, Benton; five children, David Darnell, Benton, Sharma Taylor, Benton, Arlyn Higdon, Paducah, Ky., Robert Higdon, Elgin, and David Higdon, Paducah, Ky.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and wife Miriam Corn, Benton, and Ben and wife Lucille Corn, Elgin; a son-in-law, Paul Paulson, Kingman, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Higdon was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Darlene Paulson, Evalaine Jerry and Lauren “Annie” Mulholland; a son, Howard Darnell; two sisters, Sophie Whetstone and Shirley Rose Corn; and a son-in-law, Jim Jerry.
