Harry Myron “Sparky” Choisser, 86, of Benton died at 4:23 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at the Franklin Hospital in Benton.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with David Howard and the Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Private burial will follow. Visitation will be from noon Monday until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Sparky was born on Dec. 3, 1922, in Matthew, Ill., the son of Harry Clark and Alice Marie (Slaten) Choisser.

He married Doris M. (Seibert) on Oct. 13, 1945, in Marion, and she survives.

Mr. Choisser was a World War II veteran. He served in the Army Air Corps in Europe and Italy. He was a member of the 453rd Bomber Squadron Organization; they met on a yearly basis, and he was one of the last three members.

He was a printer at The Benton Evening News for 42 years. After retiring, he built his own business and was the present owner of Deadeye Printing.

Mr. Choisser was a member of the Typographical Union. He was a member of the Benton Masonic Lodge 64 AF and AM. He was a member of the Airport Board, a former member of the Franklin County Housing Authority Board and a member of the American Legion Post 280 in Benton.

Mr. Choisser coached Little League Baseball for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Choisser of Benton; three sons, Randy Choisser and wife, Alice, of Ewing, Scott Choisser and wife, Brenda, of Benton, and Phillip Choisser and wife, Michelle, of Logan, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Barry Choisser and wife, Denise, Bryan Choisser and wife, Jennifer, Nicci Haney and husband, Eric, T.J. Choisser and wife, Brenna, Seth Choisser, Nathan Choisser, Kelsey Choisser and Alyssa Choisser; six great-grandchildren, Kayla and Elijah Haney, Abigail and Amelia Choisser, Hayley Griffen and Andrew Choisser; and two sisters, Mary Lou Jones of Benton and Betty Storey of Benton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, T.J. Choisser and Bobby C. Choisser.
