Lyman Huston “Chick” Grizzell, 65, of Royalton was called home by God at 1:42 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home after a long battle with lung cancer.

In accordance with Mr. Grizzell’s wishes, he will be cremated and no services will be held. Family and friends can pay their respects at his home in Royalton on Thursday, March 18, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Grizzell may be made to Southern Illinois Hospice, Inc. 405 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959.

Lyman was born March 8, 1945, in Royalton to Charles Oren and Wilma (Hicks) Grizzell.

He married Valerie Jean Potvin Feb. 14, 1990, in Royalton. She survives in Royalton.

Other survivors include a daughter, Brianna Grizzell of Royalton; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Roy and LaRita Person of Christopher, Allen Person of Hurst and Christopher Person of Oak Harbor, Wash.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dallas Dean and Mildred Grizzell of Johnston City, Scott Ray Grizzell of Du Quoin, and Gary and Pete Grizzell of Pinckneyville;  two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Mae Long of Royalton, and Mary and Dennis Martin of Christopher; and several grandchildren.

His parents and a brother, Charles Oren “Bud” Grizzell Jr., also preceded him in death.

Mr. Grizzell was a member of the Jubilee Tabernacle Apostolic Church in DeSoto under Pastor Danny Norman. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving four years, and a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers union who last worked at the Zeigler Coal Company, Spartan Mine in Coulterville.  Lyman loved hunting, fishing, mowing grass, just being outside and spending time with his family.
