Mary Magdalene Scarber, 76, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:03 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 at the Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.

Mary was born Nov. 11, 1943 at Pinckneyville, the daughter of John Fredrick and Catherine (Loucks) Flare.

Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Du Quoin. She was a mother, Me-me, and great Me-me. Mary loved her family, gardening and her roses. She loved to live life to the fullest and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her life partner, Charles Scarber; one sister, Hazel; four children, Carol Saunders of Vienna, Jennifer Bramlett of Morehouse, Missouri, Vernon (Genny) Smith of Nicholasville, Kentucky, and Rebecca Young of Du Quoin; 12 grandchildren, Robert H. Bramlett Jr., Jesse Saunders, Sierra (Dylan) Street, Adrian Cox, Jaylen Thompson, Kathryn Smith, Ashoniti Cole, Marah Morgan, Mary Elizabeth Smith, Serenity Morgan, Vernon Smith Jr. and Brooklyn Woody; seven great-grandchildren, Noah, Madison, and Rosalee Bramlett, Jakoby Saunders, Skylan, Sophia, and Silas Street. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jerry; life partner Albert (Jake) Smith; and one son-in-law Bob Saunders.

Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in Du Quoin with Bro. Donald Quillman officiating.

Friends may make memorials to the Women's Center in Carbondale and will be accepted at the funeral home.
