Charles Wayne Gibbs Sr., age 72, of Harrisburg, passed away at 6:18 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Shawnee Rose Care Center in Harrisburg.
Charles was born on Aug. 13, 1947 in Hardin County to the late Lewis G. and Sylvia (Ferrell) Gibbs. He married Ethel Diane Hicks and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 2003. Charles was Baptist by faith, a UMWA coal miner, and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post No. 167. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Charles was a friend to many and took pleasure in their friendship in return.
Charles is survived by two sons, Charles W. Gibbs Jr., of Harrisburg and Cheston "Chet" G. Gibbs and wife Amy of Harrisburg; grandson, Will Gibbs of Harrisburg; stepgrandson, Dylan Comer of Lebanon; and several cousins.
Private services will be held for Charles Wayne Gibbs. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post No. 167 or Hospice of Southern Illinois in his memory.
