Leona Ruth Benbenek, 95, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:55 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Leona was the dietary manager at Marshall Browning Hospital from 1970 to 1989. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin. She was also a member of the Beaucoup Chapter of the DAR.
She was born June 24, 1924 at Du Quoin, the daughter of John and Veva (Robbins) Fulk.
Leona is survived by five children, Joy Upton of Du Quoin, John Whitson of Auburn, Illinois, Jerry (Marian) Whitson of Du Quoin, Jeff (Joyce) Benbenek of Edwardsville, Illinois and James (Denise) Benbenek of Du Quoin; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Janet Benbenek; two brothers, Glen Fulk and Delmar Fulk; two sisters, Viola Greer and Betty Jean Harvengt; and a grandson.
Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Pastor Hank Fulk officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery at Sesser.
Friends may make memorials to the American Heart Association or the Du Quoin City Library, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
