DU QUOIN -- Bobby Gene Jackson, 87, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:54 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

Bobby was a coal miner, who worked at the Arch and Captain mines.

Bobby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin. He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Taussig. He received the Navy's China Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean United Nations Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Bobby was a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W., Du Quoin American Legion and the UMWA.

He was born Sept. 18, 1932 in Du Quoin, the son of William Franklin and Lola Grace (Commean) Jackson.

He married Nora Jane Beal on July 7, 1956 in Centralia, and she survives.

Bobby is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; one daughter, Jane Ellen (Michael) Klosterman of Mascoutah; and one grandson, Paul Andrew Klosterman of Mascoutah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Twila Mae Nagel; and one brother, Billy Junior Jackson.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Revs. Joe Wagner and Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W., the American Legion and the U.S. Navy.

Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin or the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
