Richard Lee Gidcumb, age 84, of Salem, Missouri, passed away Sept. 25, 2019 in his home after a long battle with COPD.

Richard was born on June 29, 1935 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Curtis) Gidcumb.

Richard attended Harrisburg High School, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines and graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy.

On March 24, 1961 he was united in marriage to Lee Catherine Fischer in Elgin, Illinois.

Richard was a member of New Harmony Church in Salem. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Some of his activities included all kinds of board games with whoever would play. He had a passion for hunting bottles and arrowheads. He was an avid guitar player and golfer, but he had a creative side as well, as he made furniture and wind chimes and the list goes on.

Survivors include his wife, Lee Gidcumb of Salem, Missouri; a sister, Diane Rees of Harrisburg; son David (Catherine) Gidcumb of Salem; son Roger (Tracey) Gidcumb of McLeansboro; daughter-in-law Carol Bough of Wheeler, Illinois; grandson Joshua (Michelle) Gidcumb of Salem; granddaughter Erin (Noah) Rienks of Rolla, Missouri; grandson Caleb (Marisha) Gidcumb of Salem; grandson Zack (Sydney) Gidcumb of McLeansboro; grandson Zeb Gidcumb of McLeansboro; granddaughter Kelley (Ben) Mowrer of Mt. Vernon; and great-grandchildren Aiden, Jackson, Isaiah, Alexa, Wyatt, Zayden, Hayden, Haddie, Zaylin, Ella, Jude, Anson and Samuel.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruth Gidcumb; brothers Doug, Winston and Cliff Gidcumb; and one son, Gary Gidcumb.

Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 4 at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in McLeansboro, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the memorial service following.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard's name are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
