MARION -- Bobbie Johnson Gill, 86, of Marion, passed away at 12:06 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Bobbie was born on Dec. 7, 1932 in New Haven to Lloyd and Helen (Ogden) Gill. He married his beloved wife, Mildred A. Williams, just before Valentine's Day in 1954 in a private wedding in Mississippi. Together, they shared more than 60 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on March 16, 2016.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country courageously during the Korean conflict while stationed at various bases throughout Europe. Once honorably discharged, he returned home to southern Illinois and began a long business career which led to ownership of his own business, "The Country Store," in Omaha.

Bobbie was a strong-willed and talkative man who hardly ever met a stranger. He was a witty man who enjoyed fishing at area lakes and hunting quail and deer in his free time. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include sons, Kenneth Gill and Dennis Gill, both of Marion; grandson, Dennis Gill Jr. of Creal Springs; brother, Glendel "Boots" Gill, of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

His wish was to be cremated and placed with his beloved wife. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial arrangements were made at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
