Raymond L. Laffoon, 90, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:10 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Raymond had worked as a foreman of water distribution for the City of Carbondale for 32 years.
He was a member of the Du Quoin Gospel Assembly Church. Raymond enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard, mowing, and keeping his yard immaculate. He also loved working in his vegetable garden. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all.
He was born Nov. 16, 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the son of Minus and Rachael (Payne) Laffoon.
He married Nancy Harlan on June 17, 1961 in Carbondale, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; two children, Gale Laffoon, and Kimberly Weber and husband, Chuck, all of Du Quoin; five grandchildren: Gale Laffoon, Jr. and wife, Katie, Chelsey Emrich and husband, Gared, Tanner Laffoon, Hayley Weber and Chasey Weber, five great grandchildren - Gabby Laffoon, Grace Laffoon, Gunner Laffoon, Brooklyn Emrich, and Rush Emrich; one brother, Fred "Buck" Kilmer, and wife, Mary, of Goreville, and one sister, Velma Smith, and husband, Larry, of Leesburg, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Chase Weber; one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 9 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Gaylen Holden officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Entombment will be in their family mausoleum at De Soto Cemetery.
Friends may make memorials to the Gospel Assembly Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
