Shirley Ruff, 82, of DuQuoin, passed away at 4:12 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in Herrin Hospital.

Shirley was born on June 12, 1936 in Du Quoin, a daughter to Hershel "Pete" and Clara Marie Bell (Huffstutler) Jones. She married Kenneth Ruff on Nov. 23, 1953 in Pinckneyville, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 8, 1991.

Shirley was a homemaker. She was a member of Jubilee Tabernacle in De Soto for 33 years. Shirley loved puzzle books, watching "Gunsmoke" and taking care of her family.

Survivors include her four sons, Steve (Kim) Ruff of Old Du Quoin, John (Debbie) Ruff of Du Quoin, Kenneth (Sharon) Ruff of Benton and Matthew Ruff of Du Quoin; three daughters, Lois (Troy) Peppers of Carterville, Phyllis George of Nashville and Rosemary Sisney of Carterville; one brother, Mark Jones of Du Quoin; one sister-in-law, Brenda Jones of Du Quoin; 13 grandchildren, Nathan, Wade, Amanda, Jeremiah, Matthew II, Chatanya, Heath, Tallen, Jonathan, Michael, Thomas, Shawn and Chad; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, John Jones; one sister-in-law, Gloria Jones; and one grandson, PJ.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1 at Pyatt Funeral Home, Du Quoin, with Pastor Danny Norman officiating. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery, Tamaroa.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday and again from 8-10 a.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family of Shirley Ruff.

Pyatt Funeral Home in Du Quoin has been entrusted with arrangements.
