Janet Y. Newborn, 69, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:50 a.m. on Sunday, April 21 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Janet was the owner and operator of Jenny's Restaurant in Du Quoin. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Du Quoin.
She was born Aug. 6, 1949 at Anna, Illinois, the daughter of Nub and Blanche (Wrolen) Leggans.
She married Robert L. Newborn on June 3, 1988 at Paducah, Kentucky and he survives.
Besides her husband, who lives in Du Quoin, Janet is survived by her children, Lorie (Ed) Malinski of Du Quoin, Theresa (Kenny) Thornsberry of St. Louis and Billy Newborn, Larry Jacobs and Tanya Jacobs, all of Du Quoin; her stepmother, Charlotte Lively of Du Quoin; brothers Jim (Linda) Leggans of Herrin, Carl (Linda) Leggans of Granite City and Lefty (Carol) Leggans of Du Quoin; sisters Phyllis Leggans of Du Quoin, Kay (Richard) Edwards of Marion, Dianne (Rick) Kelly of Creal Springs, and Nicole Loucks of Chester; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, her brother Billy Leggans and one sister who died in infancy.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Larry Barnhart officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
