Marcella A. Rowold, 90, of Red Bud, Illinois, formerly of Chester and Steeleville, passed away at 12:10 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2019 at Red Bud Regional Care.

She was born to the late Edward C. and Lorena (nee Wilson) Lindner on Jan. 16, 1929 in Chester.

Marcella married Walter F. Rowold on Nov. 5, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church in Breman, Illinois; and he survives.

She was a homemaker.

Marcella was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Chester and the D.A.V. Auxiliary. When her daughter Maureen was growing up; Marcella was an assistant Girl Scout leader and also helped with the local 4H Club.

Marcella was known for her letter writing and sending cards for birthdays, holidays and for special occasions.

She is survived by her husband, Walter F. Rowold of Red Bud; her daughter, Maureen (Mark) Liefer of Red Bud; and her step-grandson Timothy Liefer, with his fiancee Randa Roddy and her daughter, Marley.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service for Marcella A. Rowold will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, in Chester, officiated by the Rev. Tim Sims. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bremen, Illinois.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service, at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church, in Chester; St. John Lutheran Church in Bremen or to the donor's choice.
