Dale R. Lochhead, 78, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 at Independence Care Center, Perryville, Missouri.

He was born to the late James H. and Hilda D. (nee Knigge) Lochhead on July 13, 1940 in Chester.

Dale married Bonnie Bessen on Feb. 1, 1969 in Red Bud, Illinois; she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2013.

He worked for the Human Service Center as a counselor and was a mechanic for over 25 years at the family-owned business. Dale also was a toll taker at the Chester Bridge.

Dale was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. An Army veteran, he also was a member of the American Legion Post #487.

Dale is survived by three children, Timothy (Wendy) Lochhead, Dwight (Mandy) Lochhead and Jamie (Rich) Fondaw, all of Chester; 14 grandchildren, Luke (Ashley), Zach, Jake, Gabrielle, Madelyn, Abraham, Lilith, Annalise, Benjamin, Maura, Brad (Taylor), Colin, Brooklin and Liam; one great-grandchild, Saylor; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Donald Lochhead and Dean Lochhead.

It was Dale's wish to be cremated. Burial will be held at a later date.

A memorial service for Dale R. Lochhead will begin at noon on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, officiated by the Rev. Timothy Sims. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester.

Memorials are requested to St. John Lutheran School in Chester.
