Gerald LeRoy Myers, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:38 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at the Fairview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin.

LeRoy was a service tech for Pacific Press Tech. While there, he served as a service technician for machine manufacturing in Mt. Carmel, Illinois for 30 years.

LeRoy traveled to all the lower forty-eight states, to China four times -- where he walked the Great Wall -- and to Iran, Arabia, South America, Canada, Mexico and Israel. He flew more than 4 million miles going to 15 countries.

He was a graduate of Effingham High School, and a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin. LeRoy was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

LeRoy was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Watson, Illinois, the son of Earl W. and Gladys (Lewis) Myers.

He married Marjorie A. Pettis in Altamont, Illinois, on Feb. 10, 1951, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2004.

LeRoy is survived by a niece, Doris Allison of Altamont; nephew, James (Donna) Wurl of Lebanon, Missouri; three great nieces, Amber Rentfro of Altamont, Jennifer (Matt) Martin of Rolla, Missouri and Andrea (Cory) Woolsey of Lebanon, Missouri; great-great niece, Lucy Woolsey; cousin, Judy Lewis of Effingham; special friends, Rick Neal and Martha of Du Quoin; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister, Carol Petty.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Gaylen Holden officiating.

Friends may call on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

A graveside service and burial will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Altamont Union Cemetery, in Altamont, Illinois. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Gospel Assembly Church, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
