Arthur Dean Smith, 78, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 4:55 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at Pinckneyville Community Hospital.

Arthur Dean was born on May 15, 1940 in Pinckneyville, the only child to Gordon S. and Nellie B. (Holman) Smith. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in Korea. He worked as a freight checker at Spartan Printing in Sparta.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pinckneyville, the Methodist Men's Group, Graphics Union #990, and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Pinckneyville. Arthur Dean was a Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed traveling on Presley tours.

Survivors include his cousins: Mary Kopshever of Pinckneyville and her family; Paul Smith of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and his family; and Alan Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota and his family.

Arthur Dean was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville, with Rev. Don Meeks officiating. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Pinckneyville.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Masonic rites will be at 9:30.
