Christina Gaerig, 92, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away on Aug. 23, 2018 at Red Bud Regional Care Center in Red Bud.
Christina was born Feb. 19, 1926 in Dowell, Illinois.
Christina was a homemaker and member of Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church of Royalton, Illinois. She was raised in Dowell, before marrying John W. Gaerig and moving to Du Quoin, Illinois where they lived until they moved to Red Bud in 1969.
Surviving are her daughter, Julie Gaerig (Howard) Bransky; son, John (Julie Crim) Gaerig; grandchildren Alexes and Audrey Gaerig; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Christina was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Gaerig; parents Daniel and Julia (nee Bobbish) Thomas; sister, Mary Heinze; and brothers, Daniel and John Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018 at Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton, followed by services at noon, with the Reverend Father Frederick Janecek officiating.
Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Royalton.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church.
