Roger L. Welge, 78, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:08 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at his residence.

He was born to the late Adolph and Jullian (nee Wolshock) Welge on September 22, 1939 in Chester, Illinois.

Roger married Phyllis A. Spangler on June 20, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester; she survives. He had worked for the Chester Dairy for 28 years. He also worked as a custodian at Chester High School for 15 years. Roger was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #3790 in Chester. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Welge of Chester; three children, Kenny Welge (Brenda Frazer) of Perryville, Mo., Connie (Kenny) Surman of Chester, and Carla Welge of Chester; seven grandchildren, Tim (Cindy) Hecht, Chad (Lynn) Hecht, Josh (Courtney) Hecht, Bryan Welge, Brandon (Ceirra) Rains, Kalin Rains, and Brenton Rains; eight great grandchildren: Kyleigh, Kyle, Raegan, Aaden, Kinsley, Karson, Braelyn and Heidi and one great granddaughter, expected December 2018; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Anna Buckman; one brother, Adolph Welge; and one great granddaughter, Makayla Jo Hecht.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, 839 Lehmen Drive, Chester. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Klausing. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Chester.

Visitation is from 4--8 p.m. Friday and 7:30--11 a.m. Saturday at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home.
