James McSheary Woolsey, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim had been a safety manager for Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church and had served as a deacon. He was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman and chairman of the Perry County Central Committee. Jim was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Jim loved his family dearly.

He was born July 24, 1933 in Du Quoin, the son of Barney and Beulah (Wright) Woolsey.

He married Millie Marie Caraker on July 12, 1957 in Du Quoin and she preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1974. He married Sharon R. Parks on July 2, 1977 in Old Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of Du Quoin; three daughters, Tina Woolsey of Du Quoin, Cindy (Woolsey) Chapman of Du Quoin and Kathy (Woolsey) Carson of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother, Jerry Woolsey of Du Quoin; two sisters, Margie Provart of Du Quoin and Donna Adams of Carterville; five grandchildren: Zachary Calvert, Lindsey Murray, Travis Chapman, Olivia Chapman and Abby Carson; and one great-granddaughter, Emmie Jo Murray.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Garry Woolsey and Barney Woolsey; and one sister, Eileen Todd.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9 at the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Ted Clark officiating.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the United States Navy.

Burial will be at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
