George A. Jackson, 79, of Stonefort, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Keith Bunfill will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Blackman Cemetery in Stonefort.

Memorials may be made to the Stonefort Park Fund; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. Jackson was born on Sept. 10, 1938 in Johnson County, to the late Eugene and Ruth (Nance) Jackson.

He married the former Elaine Smith on April 24, 1959 and she preceded in death on Nov. 13, 2011. They will be celebrating their 59th anniversary in heaven this coming Tuesday.

He was retired from the U.S. Forestry Service where he worked for over 30 years.

He served the Village of Stonefort for over 50 years as the mayor. He was also a member of Stonefort Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by four children, Allen (Donna) Jackson of Stonefort, Penny (Bill) Benton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jarrod Jackson of Stonefort and Allyson (Gary) Ryan of Stonefort; nine grandchildren, Elijah (Alex) Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Taylor (Jacob) Horn, John (Breanne) Benton, Blake Benton, Amanda (Bryan) Riordan, Kelli (Aaron) Fredrick, Brock Jackson and Kyleigh Ryan; nine great-grandchildren, Augustine Benton, Francis Benton, Dustin Shepherd, Dylan Shepherd, Alex Shepherd, Max Shepherd, Abby Williams, Domonic Williams and Elizabeth Williams; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elaine Jackson and by five brothers, James Jackson, Harold Jackson, William Jackson, Gary Jackson and Edward Jackson.
