Joe Miller, 77, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:22 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Joe had worked at A&P Grocery Store and Green's IGA in Du Quoin. He had also worked at Kimmel-Schwinn Lumber Yard in Du Quoin, Keeling Funeral Home and Phelps Dodge Company.

He was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church and had served as song leader. He was a 50-year member of the Du Quoin Masonic Lodge.

Joe had been a member of the A-Wa-We-Go Camping Club. He had played Santa Claus for over 20 years. Joe went to numerous nursing homes and sang praises to his God.

He was born July 30, 1940 at Elkville, the son of Carl James and Lucy (Baldwin) Miller. He married Janet K. McGuire on March 30, 1963 at the Christian Church in Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, one son - Carl Miller and fiancé Jackie of Benton - and one granddaughter, Mary Miller of Cambria. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life or the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church in Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.
