Chandra M. Banerjee, 85, passed away Sunday Nov. 19, 2017 at his home in Murphysboro where he resided since 1974.

He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Calcutta, India, the son of the late Sukumar Banerjee and Nihar (Mukherji) Banerjee. He was united in marriage to Janet (Woolley) Banerjee on July 23, 1966, in Media, Pennsylvania. They shared more than 51 years of marriage.

He was an Emeritus professor at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he taught respiratory physiology.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday Dec., 2, 2017 at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship. Pastor Sarah Richards will officiate.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet; four sons with spouses and seven grandchildren, Kyle, Aaron (Jacob), Dean (Nancy, Caleb, Olivia and Anabelle) and Neal (Rochelle, Nelson, Reid and Ian); one brother, Budhu, and two sisters, Muna and Lally, in India.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Madhu.
