Barbara Agnes Carter, formerly of Du Quoin

Barbara Agnes Carter, 68, of Thayer, formerly of Du Quoin (28 years), passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at her residence.
She was born April 30, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., to Francis and Agnes O'Neal Rockett. Barbara was preceded in death by her father; her brother, Dennis; her sister, Catherine; and stepfather Bill Bird. She married Larry Carter May 18, 1974. Mrs. Carter had been a board member for the village of Thayer. Barbara was past queen and member of the Daughters of the Nile ABEBA Temple No. 42; she had also been active in the Thayer Senior Citizens and Thayer Citizens United.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 43 years, Larry; sons Daniel (Anne) Carter of Springfield and David (Charise) Carter of Thayer; stepdaughter Kerry (Stacey) Maguire of Belleville; mother Agnes Bird of Halfway, Ore.; grandchildren Jessica and Darby Maguire, Tristin (Kylie) Irvine, Jillian and Addison Carter, and Anna and Lane Parker; brothers Alan (Gail) Rockett of Fairfield, Calif., and Matthew (Sandra) Rockett of Ledyard, Conn.; sisters Shannon Rector and Elizabeth (Calvin) McCullough, both of Halfway, Ore.; sister-in-law Sheryl Rockett, Bloomington, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites were accorded by Cremation Services of Central Illinois in Chatham. Private family services were held with her pastor, Chuck Kurfman, officiating.
