CARRIER MILLS -- Ronald E. Oneal, 81, of Alton, formerly of Carrier Mills, passed away at 9:27 a.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, in Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 10, 1936, in Carrier Mills, he was the son of Ralph and Lela (Pankey) Oneal.

He married Mabel Delores "Dee" Harris Aug. 28, 1954, in Harrisburg, She preceded him in death Dec. 12, 2010.

A foreman for Owens-Illinois, he retired in 1993 after 40 years. He loved golfing and traveling, although he never made it to Australia. He also was known to pull the handle on a slot machine or two.

Survivors include a son, Brian (Melanie) Oneal of Alton; three daughters, Debra Oneal of Alton, Rhonda (Bill) Frields of Bethalto and Michelle (Bob) Stephenson of Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Casei Frields-Benton and husband Bryan, Nicholas (Brittany) Frields, Christopher (Meaghan) Kearbey, Kayla (Erik) Lowder, and Brittany and Paige Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Landon, Logan, Clayton, Machayla and McKenna Kearbey, Alexa and Elijah Lowder, Paxton and Jaxson Stephenson, and Sawyer and Liam Benton; three sisters, Dorothy Ledford of Peoria, and Joan Orman and Linda Moore, both of Alton; two brothers, Bob (Joan) Oneal of Marion and Donnie (Margaret) Oneal of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary McGhee; two brothers, Wendell Oneal and his best friend and brother, Ralph "Jr." Oneal; and his beloved fur baby, Missy.

Ronald's family would like to extend a note of gratitude to the nurses on the second floor at Alton Memorial Hospital for their excellent care.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, in Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 30, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
