HARRISBURG -- Donald G. Hughes, 88, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017, at his home in Fruitport, Michigan, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 30, 1929, in Raleigh to the late Euless and Blondale (Rhine) Hughes. He married the former LaDonna Sandage on Sept. 9, 1950, in Harrisburg. They met at Harrisburg National Bank, where they were both employed.

Don attended Wise School and Raleigh public schools, graduating from Eldorado Township High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the headquarters' financial division which led him to a successful banking career in Harrisburg and Michigan.

Don was a member of Harrisburg Rotary Club and past president of Harrisburg Junior Chamber of Commerce.

He also was a member of Harrisburg Masonic Lodge 325 and First Baptist Church in Harrisburg.

Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife, LaDonna; daughters, Debra (Donald) Knapp of Westchester, Pennsylvania, and Rebecca (Charles) Raschke of Grand Haven, Michigan; son, Gregory (Pamela) Hughes of Brighton, Michigan; and grandchildren, Laura Hughes, Karissa Raschke, Kayla Raschke, Eileen (Kurt) Tintle and Benjamin Knapp.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Durward Hughes.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, in First Baptist Church, 1070 S. Quarterline Road, in Muskegon, Michigan, with Pastor John Brown officiating. Full military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 9 Muskegon. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 23, in Raleigh Masonic Cemetery with miliary graveside rites performed by Masonic Lodge 325.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in Muskegon, Michigan, or American Lung Association.
