Edward James Berry, 77, of Chester, Illinois, went to meet our Lord on Friday, March 24 at 2:59 p.m. at Three Springs Lodge.

He was born in DeSoto, Missouri to the late William and Hazel Berry on July 10, 1939.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Chester. He graduated from Chester High School in 1957.

He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a major in chemistry and history.

He was involved for years in the 4-H program specializing in equestrian activities and he often brought home the trophies and ribbons.

He tutored young people in the art of equestrian sportsmanship/jumping, riding and showmanship.

Ed's career varied from prison guard, to river boat deck hand, to writing instruction manuals for medical equipment, to teaching drivers training, driving a taxi and working in the alarm business as well as Security.

His last job was in security.

Upon retirement due to health issues, Ed became a resident at Craig Manor for almost six years and was then moved back and forth from hospital to Three Springs for the last few months of his life.

He is survived by a younger set of twins, Betty Marie McGee of Chester, Ill., and William Lee Barry of Salem, Ore. (Betty and Billy)

There will be a memorial service held on Saturday April 8 at First Baptist Church in Chester. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the service will be at 11 a.m.

Pastor Mike Fogerson will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, Ed wanted a donation to the 4H Club or to the First Baptist Church.
