Jesse B. Perkins, 33, of Benton stood before Judge Tom Tedeschi in Franklin County court on Thursday as his attorney, Michael A. Rowland, entered a negotiated plea of guilt on his behalf.

Perkins, who was in custody, was ordered to serve 30 months’ probation, pay court costs and restitution to be determined at a later date.

Tedeschi said the defendant would provide a DNA sample and pay $200 for the test as well as a $25-per-month probation fee.

Assistant state’s attorney Phillip Butler said Perkins pleaded to one count of theft above $500 after reportedly taking five rings from a victim.

He said Perkins rifled through a jewelry box that contained the rings.

Tedeschi dismissed additional charges, saying the defendant had to report to the county’s probation department within seven days of entering the negotiated plea.

The judge ordered Perkins to return to court on Oct. 5 for a review hearing.

A May 3 court date was set to determine restitution. Tedeschi said Perkins also owes money on traffic charges.

• Carl G. Foster, 29, of West Frankfort will serve 30 months’ probation after entering a negotiated guilty plea on Thursday.

Appearing in custody with his attorney, Eric J. Dirnbeck, Foster was ordered by Tedeschi to pay court costs and restitution in the amount of $1,040 following a burglary that occurred on Oct. 27, 2011 in Royalton. Tedeschi said Foster and two other defendants entered a Royalton business and removed 50 types of knives and a compound bow from the premises.

Foster was ordered to serve 80 days in the Franklin County Jail Facility with credit for time served.

Tedeschi told him to undergo alcohol treatment, to pay a $25-per-month fee while Foster is on probation.

The judge also noted that the defendant had unsuccessfully completed his probation from previous offenses.

Tedseschi said Foster would report to the probation department within seven days and ordered him to pay all of the money owed in his juvenile cases within 12 months.

• Eco C. Edmonds, 24, of Mulkeytown learned that a sentencing date was set for May 17 after entering a negotiated guilty plea.

Tedeschi said Edmonds would be charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance on June 17, 2011, and mob action after she and another woman struck and kicked another female on Aug. 22, 2010.

He said the count of mob action and unlawful possession are Class 4 felonies punishable by up to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Tedeschi said the sentence recommended would be his decision.

Tedeschi said the sentence recommended would be his decision.

Assistant state’s attorney Steve Swofford said had the case gone to trial, the state would have called the victim, who would testify that she was at a party on Aug. 22, 2010, when Edmonds and another woman allegedly approached the victim and began striking and kicking her, causing bodily harm.

Swofford cited another case in which Edmonds struck a woman in the face while in the Italian Club in Coello on Dec. 4, 2010.

Tedeschi said a charge of misdemeanor battery in the Dec. 4, 2010, case and a driving under the influence arrest would be dismissed in exchange for the negotiated plea.

He said the probation department would be putting together a pre-sentencing report before Edmonds’ next court date.
