Buckner Mayor John Coder reports that the village had been notified that it would receive $350,000 in funds from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity toward the construction of a new water tower.
Coder said the village had applied for grant funding. “We signed the final papers and after waiting almost three years, the bidding process of new construction is under way,” Coder said.
“We have been told that construction will begin in the spring. We have heard this before and are keeping our fingers crossed that it will happen this year.”
Coder said the village received a phone call from the governor’s office last week informing them that the funds had been released.
He also reported that the storm siren grant had been approved.
Coder said a state-of-the-art system would be installed in the Buckner Fire Department and would enable the National Weather Service to issue alerts when threatening weather approaches.
“We received a $17,000 grant,” Coder said. “The village is contributing $5,000 and the siren will be multi-directional in order to be heard throughout the village when residents are outside. This is the same system that Christopher operates and can also be heard in Buckner during approaching storms.”
