Benton, Ill. -

Everything will be coming up roses, tulips and irises in the conference room of the Downtown Benton, Inc., office.

Organization committee chairman Alan Odom said a “make it and take it” class will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 30.

“We had such a favorable response to our holiday wreath making class that we decided to offer another class in the spring,” Odom said. “Nancy Odom will instruct others how to create a floral centerpiece that people can use throughout the season and add color to their Easter dinner tables.

“Everything will be provided and participants can customize their own to suit their personal style,” Alan Odom said. “The silk flowers are in the colors of spring and include yellow tulips, pink roses and blue iris. The cost is $20 per person. Reservations are required due to the tremendous turnout we had for the holiday wreath class.”

The deadline to register is March 27, he said.

Odom said committee members found an arrangement to their liking and decided to replicate it using silk flowers instead because they will last indefinitely.

“We are asking people to call the DBI office at 439-6105 to pre-register for the class,” he said. “Payment will be accepted in advance or at the door. Everyone is welcome.”

Odom said the majority of flowers are being donated for the class. “We are seeking sponsors for the class,” he said.

He said an antique automobile show is planned for Saturday, May 23.

“This will be a first for DBI,” Odom said.

DBI Executive Director Sharon Pioveson said car clubs are being asked to participate.

“We are sending information to antique car clubs and have received some very positive feedback,” Pioveson said. “The car show is open to all vehicles manufactured before 1950. We invite participants to dress in costume reflecting the period of their auto. One of the local antique car clubs, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America of Christopher, will be bringing their rolling stock to the parking lots of the 1910 Franklin County Garage Museum located on North Main Street and the Franklin County Jail Museum located on West Main Street.”
