An empty Union Pacific tank car early this morning partially derailed outside of Benton.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department was notified around 4:40 a.m. Monday that one wheel of the tank car had left the track near the intersection of the Eakin Grove, Glen and St. Joseph’s roads southwest of Benton.

“The railroad dispatched a crew to put the tank car back on the track,” Franklin County Sheriff Bill Wilson said.

Wilson said he did not know how long it would take the crew to complete its work.
